  1. How do I use my Community Discount Drug Card?

It's easy. Print your FREE card out here and put in your purse or wallet. Then present your card to pharmacy when filling or refilling your prescriptions.  Your card has all the information necessary for your pharmacist to give you the best price for your prescription. [back to top]

  1. What pharmacies accept my card?

Over 50,000 pharmacies nationwide accept the Community Discount Drug Card.  This includes major and regional pharmacy chains, plus many smaller independent pharmacies.  Use our Find Pharmacies - Price Drugs tool to locate the closest participating pharmacy, as well as getting an approximate price for your prescription at that pharmacy.  [back to top]

  1. Who can use the Community Discount Drug Card?

EVERYONE - there are no exclusions. If you lack prescription coverage and are paying full price for your prescriptions, your card gives you instant access to pre-negotiated discounts. If you have prescription coverage, your plan may not cover certain drugs - your card can be used to gain a discount on those prescriptions. If you are under 18, this card must be used by your parent or guardian. [back to top]

  1. Is my card really FREE?  How is this possible?

Your card is free – there is no catch.  Pharmacies compete for your business (if you have not already noticed).  Because of this, both national and independent pharmacies are willing to offer negotiated discounts to companies capable of driving more customers through their doors.  As a Community Discount Drug Card holder, you gain instant access to these discounts. [back to top]

  1. Can I use my Community Discount Drug Card right away?

Yes, your card is active and can be used immediately. [back to top]

  1. Can I use my Community Discount Drug Card for my entire family?

Yes, one card covers everyone in your immediate family - even your pets!  You know lots of other people (and pets) that could benefit from using our card (extended family members, neighbors, church members, friends, business associates).  Please feel free to print as many cards as you need to pass on to them. Or refer them back to this website with the Access Code on your card, so they can print their own card out. [back to top]

  1. How much will I save using my Community Discount Drug Card?

Your savings depends on the type of medication you need and the pharmacy that is filling the prescription. Many pharmacies have a list of generic drugs priced at the lowest discount rate already.  Your card will not save you anything in this case.  If the drug you need is not on that list, then this card will likely get you some sort of discount.  We make no claim that you'll "save every time".  What we can say is that this card, in many cases, will save you some money off the regular price of your prescription drug.  [back to top]

  1. How many times can I use my Community Discount Drug Card?

Use your card each and EVERY time you get a prescription filled – there are no limits to the number of times you can use your card. [back to top]

  1. Does my Community Discount Drug Card expire?

No, your card does not expire – it can be used into the future. [back to top]

  1. Can I really use the Community Discount Drug Card for my pets?

Yes.  If your pet is prescribed medication from your veterinarian, use your card to get discounts on that medication when you get the prescription filled at any participating pharmacy, just as you would do for any other family member. [back to top]

  1. Can I print extra copies of my Community Discount Drug Card to give to my spouse, or to file a copy away in case my card is lost?

Yes.  When printing your card, print more than one copy if you would like to give a copy to your spouse, save a copy in your files, give one to your doctor, and/or place one in the glove box of each family car. Simply select the number of cards you’d like to print before you select the “OK” button. [back to top]

  1. Do I have to show my card every time I get a prescription filled?

Once your pharmacy has your Community Discount Drug Card information in their computers, you won’t have to present it again unless you change pharmacies.  It doesn’t hurt to ask them to make sure they have applied your discount to your refills, or any new prescriptions. [back to top

  1. My pharmacist has questions about accepting my Community Discount Drug Card – who should he call?

If your pharmacist has any questions at all regarding our card, they can call the toll-free Pharmacy Help Desk number on the back of your card. [back to top]

  1. How does this card work for Medicare Part D participants?

Medicare Part D participants have a “donut hole” phase in their coverage where they have an out-of-pocket expense. The Community Discount Drug Card can help participants, in this phase, to save on their prescription drug costs. [back to top]

  1. Is my Community Discount Drug Card insurance?

No.  The Community Discount Drug Card is not insurance nor is it intended to replace insurance.  Prescription drug insurance usually offers participants a co-pay amount that is likely lower than the discount drug price available to our cardholders.  If you have prescription coverage with your health insurance,  you can still present the Community Discount Drug Card to your pharmacist for discounts on drugs that your plan DOES NOT cover, and to make sure that your insurance plan is giving you the lowest price.  [back to top

  1. What if my health insurance plan has a high deductible?

You can use the Community Discount Drug Card to save on prescriptions until you reach your deductible amount. [back to top

  1. Can I use the Community Discount Drug Card at the same time as my prescription insurance benefit?

No, you will use one, or the other - not both. That will be determined by which one gives you the best price on the prescription you are getting. [back to top

  1. I send my prescription receipts in to my insurance company for reimbursement – can I use my card for my initial purchase?

If you participate in an insurance plan that reimburses your drug purchases through a claims process, you will likely be able to use your card to get a discount, and then submit the receipt to your insurance for payment. Please check with your insurance provider to make sure this is allowed. [back to top

  1. What drugs are covered by the Community Discount Drug Card?

Your card entitles you to discounts on generic and brand name drugs - over 60,000 formularies are eligible for discounts. To see if the drug you need is covered under our program, and to get an idea of how much you will save by using your card, use our Find Pharmacies - Price Drugs tool. [back to top

  1. I have a health insurance plan with prescription coverage - can I use my Community Discount Drug Card if it is cheaper than my prescription card?

Yes.  Keep in mind though that if you have not yet reached your annual insurance deductible, it is most likely that you will want to use your insurance benefits.  If you use our card instead of your prescription card, then you will likely need to send a copy of the receipt to your insurance company to ensure that the amount paid is applied to your annual deductible.  If you register our card with your pharmacy, and it is the same pharmacy that your health prescription plan is registered – you will also need to indicate which plan is being used for future prescription purchases.
